Enriching lives and strengthening social bonds are fundamental elements of our business philosophy. We are committed to supporting the social development of the communities in which we operate in through the core areas of Art, Children and Education. We believe these to be essential for the quality and progress of society.
Through the decades, our efforts across the region have supported the young, especially the underprivileged, as well as those with special needs and with untapped talent.
UOB Heartbeat Run is an annual volunteerism and fundraising event, an integral part of the UOB Heartbeat Corporate Social Responsibility programme. This programme is dedicated to creating sustainable social impact by improving the quality of life for underserved children and communities. In 2023, partnering with Saigon Children’s Charity CIO, we have committed to dedicate the UOB Heartbeat Fund to equip five computer rooms across schools in the Mekong Delta area in the five years, providing the underprivileged students better access to online educational resources and to develop digital skills.
At UOB, we believe that art transcends language, culture, geographies and time. Its history gives people a sense of identity and perspective, it informs with the present and it creates a future for the imagination. Art builds relationships and unites people.
As such and given our longstanding presence in the region, we have been behind Southeast Asian art. Driven by a passion to encourage talented artists in their creative pursuits, UOB started the UOB Painting of the Year (POY) competition in Singapore in 1982, expanded to Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia in 2010-2011, and to Vietnam in 2023.
Today, the annual art competition is the longest-running in Singapore and one of the most prestigious in Southeast Asia. The competition has uncovered more than 1,100 artists across the region. It continues to uncover the next generation of great Southeast Asian artists, and contribute to greater awareness and appreciation of art.
Through our programs, we equip underprivileged children with digital skills and tools, empowering them to navigate the online world with confidence - from basic tech use to cybersecurity and responsible internet practices.
We also create opportunities for creative and environmental learning. Children can explore self-expression through art workshops with our UOB Painting of the Year artists and discover the wonders of biodiversity through guided eco-excursions. Our dedicated staff volunteers play a key role, sharing their time and knowledge to support and inspire each child's journey.
